Bible Verses for Loneliness

Last year (2011) I struggled with deep loneliness. Sometimes I wondered if God was really near me; if He could fill the empty holes in my heart...I felt very alone and listless. But during this new year God has been showing me that I am never alone, and I've come to treasure the people I do have around me even more than before! If you are feeling lonely, I hope these verses encourage you as they have encouraged me.

"I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD."
Psalm 40:1-3

"Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone.
I will make a helper who is just right for him.”"
Genesis 2:18

"And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you."
John 14:16-17

"When my father and my mother forsake me,
then the LORD will take me up."
Psalm 27:10

"I would have lost heart, unless I had believed
That I would see the goodness of the LORD
In the land of the living."
Psalm 27:13

"Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me."
Hebrews 13:5-6

"Sorrow is better than laughter, for sadness has a refining influence on us."
Ecclesiastes 7:3

"As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance."
Psalm 42:1-5

"You find families for those who are lonely. You set prisoners free and let them prosper, but all who rebel will live in a scorching desert."
Psalm 68:6

"At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom:
to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen."
2 Timothy 4:16-18

  1. Such good verses... I especially love Psalm 27:13. It reminds me that I just need to have faith that I WILL see the goodness of the Lord. :)

Oh and the Ecclesiastes verse. It helps me to have patience knowing that suffering has a purpose.

    1. Man I feel so bad that I did not reply to your comment! Thank you for the feedback, and the verse. Psalm 27 is such a blessing, and the promise that we will see Him who our soul loves is incredibly encouraging!
